"The Hessian's final words were, "Moloch shall rise." This name is referenced in several theological texts, notably Milton's Paradise Lost. So called as the God-Demon of Child Sacrifice, who led a revolt of fellow demons against Heaven. [...] This is the creature you saw in the forest, Ms. Mills, the one who controls the Horseman, who guards Katrina... and now we know his name."
— Ichabod Crane to Abbie Mills, finally knowing the name of Moloch

Pocantico Grove

The Haunting Past Sub Arc, formerly known as Jenny Sub Arc and Hessian Sub Arc is the second major Sub Arc of LOTM: Witnesses of Sleepy Hollow - Death Arc, happened just one day after LOTM: Witnesses of Sleepy Hollow Horsemen Saga - Death Arc: Blood Moon Sub Arc.

Unlike the previous sub arc, this sub arc is more focused on one-shot villains and threats who had haunted the past of both Ichabod and Abbie. Nevertheless, they were all related to one certain evil, who is the main arc villain... and the source of all sorrow. Later, Phyllis Peach debuts and becomes the main arc villain.

Overview[]

One day after the threat of Blood Moon was over, the town of Sleepy Hollow was still haunted by the evil that was supposed to be sealed 232 years ago, with the rumors of the Headless Horseman returning haunted so many. Not only Atticus Nevins still posed a threat and tried to cause mayhem via a horrid blade, but also there was an evil whispering wraith, created by the deceased Christine Van Bilj via manipulating a revolutionary traitor, had delved into Ichabod's darkest hours, when our main hero almost turned into a traitor.

In all those mayhems, more dark secrets hidden by the late Sheriff August Corbin had been discovered. Abbie tried to resolve her conflict with her family, all the while confronting her sister, Jenny Mills. Will Abbie eventually mended her broken sisterly relationship with Jenny? Will the Witnesses seeked out the source of all evil before he haunted the entire town of Sleepy Hollow?

Synopsis (spoilers)[]

Part 1 - Byzantine Parang[]

Shadow Sae Angry Cut-in

The grey-haired woman

Inside Purgatory, Atticus Nevins stayed inside the Purgatory, watching Ichabod's past inside the mirror in Moloch's lair. Suddenly, Nevins was approached by a gray-haired woman, who was having a partnership with him. The woman wanted him to clarify the fact of containing Christine's blood for her. Nevins did not tell her, and he only summoned a knife of which he presented it to the gray-haired woman. The woman left with the blade, but telling Nevins that she would find a time to seek out the truth.

At a business department, a young man named Nelson Meyers watches as a female co-worker Emily Kates talks with another man, Matthew Gorman. He joins them in the elevator and invites Emily out for lunch. Emily says that she's going to a birthday dinner at a bar with a group for worker and distractedly says that she'll see Nelson there. Nelson goes there and drinks alone, watching Emily and Gorman.

303Nelson1

Nelson after being possessed by the weapon

As Emily and Gorman dance, the mysterious grey-haired woman appeared chatted with Nelson and tells him not to let Gorman get in the way. Se says that they'll show Emily the real Nelson and sedates him after putting drugs inside Nelson's cup of beer. Then, they starts to dance. Nelson gets dizzy and passes out. When he wakes up, he's at home on his bed. The dagger is on his nightstand and Gorman has no idea what it is. At work, Gorman is in the elevator talking to a coworker about his time with Emily. Nelson is behind him, listening... before his face turns dark.

Near Corbin's archive, Abbie tells Sister Mary Eunice that she didn't think the body of Betsy had any value or anyone cared about it, but Sister Mary Eunice insists to find Nevins while trying to deal the possible threat of a returning Horseman of Death. Abbie warns her to take it slow, just as Irving (who sees Sister Mary Eunice as a simple nun) joins them. After a brief talk with Sister Mary Eunice, who lied to him about her true identity, Irving tells Abbie that the police need assistance with a homicide: a stabbing with no blood.

The "Ripper" Ichabod saw as a young man.

At the office, Abbie and Ichabod check the elevator where Matthew Gorman was killed. The man has been exsanguinated, and stabbed multiple times in what indicates rage. Ichabod mutters the name "Bertie" and tells Abbie that he recognizes the MO. He saw it before he traveled to America, and says that he's dealing with pure evil that he encountered in his childhood: the killer known as Jack the Ripper. At the archives, Ichabod explains that he encountered Jack the Ripper in 1763, almost a hundred years before the Whitechapel murders.

303ByzantineParang

The true "killer" is not a monster, but a weapon...

At Eton, 1763, Ichabod is in his sixth form and his close friend Bertie was killed. He was exsanguinated and the students formed a group to find the killer. However, when Ichabod returns to his room, he discovers that his family servant Stephens is there to take him home. Stephens says that carrying on the Crane lineage is tantamount and insists that Ichabod come with him because it isn't safe at Eton. Ichabod returned the next fall and lived in fear that the killer would strike at him, as the teasing of Christine Van Bilj made it worse. Ichabod tells Abbie that within the last year, he learned about the Ripper Whitechapel murders in 1888. Similar killings date back over 900 years, and Ichabod figures the killer is a supernatural being. Abbie reconstructs the shape of the dagger from the puncture marks on the victim.

Selina dressed up as a maid as a disguise.

At the office, Nelson watches Emily cry. A friend comes over to comfort her. Back at home, Abbie and Ichabod identify the dagger as a Byzantine parang coming from the First Crusades. Legend has it that those who wield the parang are overcome by an unquenchable bloodlust. The parang turns people into Rippers, and the Witnesses are searching for a weapon. Nelson gets into his car and finds that grey-haired woman waiting in the backseat. He begs the woman to leave him alone, but the grey-haired woman says that he's had a taste of the homicidal rage buried inside of him. Nelson tries to throw the parang away but can't, and the grey-haired woman tells him that he has one more step to take as the parang merges with Nelson's hand.

The next day, the Mayor of Sleepy Hollow orders Selina Strawberry to delve deeper into the case by visiting Lt. Abbie Mills. However, Selina decides to visit Ichabod instead. Meanwhile, Abbie tells Luke that they're dealing with a ritualistic killer and wants to stay on the case. He agrees and invites her to dinner so that they can clear the air between them on a few things. Abbie agrees and Luke walks away.

At the archive, Ichabod is gathering books when Selina comes in, dressed up as a maid which resembled "Red Riding Hood" in Grimm's tales. Selina gives him a name card of hers. If he needs help, he can phone her.

Minutes later, the grey-haired woman and Nelson go back to Nelson's apartment, and Nevins says that the parang sensed Nelson's deep pain and channels it like a forge. Now, Nevins wants Nelson to stand at his side once the murderer abandons hesitation and doubt. Nevins tells Nelson to embrace his destiny... and kill the witnesses to appeal his new master, Moloch.

The next day, Abbie checks Gorman's office and confirms that Nelson didn't show up for work and had access to the building. Ichabod wonders what Nevins gains, and Abbie points out that their enemy knows their past and their secrets. As they get to Nelson's door, he cuts through it with the parang and they duck back just in time.

303DeadCar

Nelson fell from his house window, but survived.

Breaking in, the Witnesses confirm that the parang has merged with Nelson. Ichabod says that they can help him, but Nelson refuses to go back to being a nobody. He lunges at Abbie and she shoots him, knocking him back out the window to land on a car three stories below. He gets up, laughing, and walks away.

Abbie and Ichabod go to Abbie's office and bring up the records on the Ripper killers. They figure that something ended each killing spree, and Abbie confirms that in 1763, 29 people died of Yellow Fever. The Crown hid the truth about the disease to avoid a panic, and Ichabod was summoned home to protect him from the disease, not the Ripper. Each killing spree ended at the same time as a disease outbreak. The Witnesses figure that the evil possessing the innocent host can't tolerate tainted blood. As they leave, Dani tells them that she's decrypted Nelson's personal computer and finds photos of Emily, who is revealed to be Nelson's next victim.

303Threatened

A deranged Nelson held the blade as he threatened Ichabod and Abbie.

Emily goes to her car in the parking garage and Nelson watches her from the shadows. A police car pulls up and the officer in charge, Detective Rudi Chandler, says that she has to come with them. Ichabod and Abbie collect two vials of tainted blood—all that's available—and load the first one into a dart gun. He says that they both witnessed evil at a young age, Ichabod vows to avenge every victim the parang has claimed. Rudi doesn't call back, and they get his voice mail. Abbie figures that something is wrong and heads for the office. They pull into the parking garage and find Rudi's car... and his corpse. Suddenly, Emily's screaming is heard, and the Witnesses follow the noise. A deranged Nelson steps out, holding the blade to Emily's throat, and tells Ichabod and Abbie to back off.

Abbie gets close enough to kick Nelson away. While Ichabod gets Emily to safety, Abbie says that they can save Nelson, knowing his troubled life of being ignored despite he tried to make a difference. Nelson rejects her help, saying that he is saved now that he has the parang. Ichabod returns and shoots him, but the parang armors Nelson's skin, protecting him. Nelson goes after Emily, shoving Ichabod aside, and Abbie takes Emily into the basement. Ichabod goes after him and Nelson doubles back, attacking him and knocking the remaining vial to the floor. They struggle and Ichabod manages to reload the gun, but Nelson cuts the barrel off. He then stabs Ichabod and the parang feeds on the blood. Ichabod drops the empty vial, and Nelson collapse as the blade withdraws itself from him. Abbie comes back and calls an ambulance, and tells Ichabod to hang on. Suddenly, the woman with long grey hair steps out of the shadows and mockingly asks Abbie what it feels like to be alone, and then disappears.

Ichabod, nevertheless, survives the ordeal. After Nelson's arrest and subsquent imprisonment in Tarrytown, Abbie visits Luke and says that she has to take a raincheck on dinner. He congratulates her on solving the case, and offers her a drink from his personal bottle. Abbie accepts. Luke assures her that she's just as good an agent and they can do a lot of damage helping us. He says that what happened between them doesn't have to get in the way, and a relieved Abbie agrees.

The gray-haired lady reveals her true identity.

Later, Abbie returns to the Archives where Ichabod is recovering from his wound and his bout with malaria. Selina was taking care of him in her maid outfit. Abbie tells him about the grey-haired woman and they figure that she is trying to raise fear in Sleepy Hollow for some reason, and Selina bites her lips when she heard about the gray-haired woman, but she calms herself down when Ichabod asks her about it. Ichabod figures that they will find out why and stop her because they're the Witnesses. Before he dozes off, Ichabod says that he's glad that he and Abbie found each other again.

With the help of Selina, the Byzantine Parang is then instantly locked in the Archives. Selina then leaves, believing she would keep an eye on the gray-haired lady, who might be someone she knew. Meanwhile, Nevins had met with the gray-haired woman (whom he refers as "Ms. Prosecutor"), who this time dresses up like a lawyer. Nevins informs her that the plan of Michael Langdon in Sleepy Hollow is far from over, and Moloch will rise from Purgatory with the help of Anti-Christ. The gray-haired woman then says she does not care if Moloch took power. The only thing she desires is taking down Selina Strawberry so that she will take over the Order of Flourish for herself by banishing the Light Lord, right prior to her reveal of her name; Phyllis Pride Parker. Phyllis suggests Nevins to find Jenny Mills if they have another chance, believing Jenny will one day escape from her padded cell.

Christine trapped in Purgatory after her temporary defeat.

After his meeting with Phyllis, Nevins returns back to Purgatory and speaks to Moloch about the containment of Van Bilj Blood. He claims that the blood contained by the Byzantine Parang will also work for their next project that Michael Langdon conceived. Knowing Michael is still helping him even in the future, Moloch orders Nevins to do his next job as a black essence started to surface behind Moloch. It is Marcus Collins in his wraith form, summoned by Moloch to claim more souls for him.

Soon afterwards, Christine, chained in her cell, makes her order to delve into more secrets of human so that she can help Moloch to claim more souls. Obeying Christine's order, the demon disappars. It turns out that Christine's soul has trapped in Purgatory facing her punishment, but still she has authority to order demons she created from human.

Moloch then gives Christine one hour out of Purgatory via a soul fragment, but she can only do what Moloch orders to do. Happily accepted this, Christine has no regret of being punished. She assures to Moloch that the plan she setted up is still in effect, due to the set out of Marcus Collins, and Moloch will see a brand new self out of her once she returns when situation changes.

302Wraith1

Marcus Collins as the Whispering Wraith

Fully aware that Valindra took her ashes away to revive her, the damned soul of Christine then gloats when she heard the scream of Lady Van Tassel, knowing at least her rival screams like a coward due to her punishment, while she never screams. Moloch questions that whether she would become more successful if she was given a second chance. Christine replies that she will seek out her own mistakes during her days in Purgatory and will try to avoid it. Gloating and remorseless all along, Christine even claims that a new era is coming, and she anticipates what will happen next even if she is so far stuck in Purgatory.

Part 2 - Marcus Collins[]

Christine in front of Marcus Collins before turning him into a monster.

In the past, Christine Van Bilj taken a task from General William Howe and greeted a turncoat named Marcus Collins, who came to Howe's encampment with informations of some of colonial spies. Christine affably greeted him and asked what he wanted. Marcus repiled that he wanted to work for Howe and delved into the secrets of spies, wanting to help the British to win the war after knowing Ichabod himself was a turncoat of British and decided to mimic his actions. Christine gave Marcus a silver coin as a reward, which is one of the accursed Tyrian Shekels. Marcus was tempted by the coin and desired power.

Satisfied, Christine used her magic to turn Marcus into a whispering wraith that could delve into human's darkest secret and silence them by killing them. During this time, Christine was protective to her twin brother, Colin, and had a respect towards her father, Colin. When a guard spoke ill of Colin, an enraged Christine then beated him up and claimed she will never dipose of her brother since they were family (which turned into an irony after she killed her brother centuries later).

Christine's Villainous Breakdown after knowing she was used and deceived by her father.

Just then, Colin entered Christine's chamber and told her about what he found in his father's chamber via using the family jewels to open the portrait (which was under the order of Christine due to curiousity). After knowing both she and Colin became nothing but two tools of their father, Christine broke down and hugging Colin all the while crying in despiar, and she fell in deep comatose for three days before she awakened and planned her revenge, finally turning from a mere arrogant woman to a cruel embodiment of madness.

While plotting revenge against her father, Christine then ordered a transformed Marcus Collins to kill spies and discovered that Ichabod Crane spied into British as well. Christine had a bitter rivalry with Ichabod, but then she came up with a new strategy. Claiming her plan was all good for Ichabod, Christine told Howe that she would help Howe to capture Ichabod, and then they will force Ichabod to sold other colonial spies in exchange of being pardoned. Howe agreed... and that sets up all the events happened in LOTM: Witnesses of Sleepy Hollow Horseman Saga - Seamstress (Prologue). Their plan soon failed when Ichabod refused the offer despite Howe's threatening and subsquently escaped. However, given to the fact that he was very briefly tempted by Christine's offer, Ichabod felt guilty and sealed the secret inside his mind.

302Wraith

The Whispering Wraith appears before Agent Paul Everett.

In the present day of Sleepy Hollow, the soul essence of Christine possessed a cafe worker in the Tarrytown train station and observed a man, Paul Everett, is calling the FBI. He asks to speak to an agent, while Christine's Essence listens and tells the shadow essence of Marcus that Paul hassecret and is terrified that it will be discovered. Turns out, Christine was permitted by Moloch to release a soul essence of hers to Sleepy Hollow for 1 hour in order to pave its way towards Sleepy Hollow. No longer cares about creating a plan, Christine tells the shadow to take its time and make him squirm.

Spiritualism-TF04-JP-VG

Christine's essence after returning back to Purgatory and merged with the original Christine.

The shadow manifests as a woman and confronts Paul, and visions of what he knows flash through his head. The creature spears him through the chest and Paul collapses, dead. Noticting this, Christine's Essence watches with a glimmer of smile on her face, but when some people arrived and cried for help, Christine retreated immediately with the fear of the agent she collected. The essence of Christine then returned back to Purgatory, leaving Marcus to do whatever he was ordered to do. After she has her essence merged back with her original soul, Christine reports to Moloch that everything goes rather well.

Meanwhile in a diner, Abbie talks to Ichabod about how she wants to continue building a life for herself, balancing her life between being a Witness and a police lieutanant. Just then, dispatch calls to tell Abbie that they have a death reported at the train station. Abbie and Ichabod go there and the officer on the scene tells them that Paul Everett was an accountant for the county comptroller. According to police notes, Paul apparently died of a heart attack, and Ichabod notes that he was terrified. He feels something familiar and walks outside.

302Pandora

Pandora, in her disguise, while overwatching Ichabod.

As he goes outside, Ichabod notices the façade across the street, feeling the presence of some paranormal presence, and turns to find Pandora behind him, disguising as a passer by. After a brief chat with Ichabod without letting him to know her true identity, Pandora walks away and Abbie comes out, and tells Ichabod that Paul called the FBI with something just as he died. Ichabod says that they may be facing a new supernatural threat made out of a shadow. After they arrived at the archive, Abbie brings up the message Paul left and analyzes the background noise. She filters out the background noise and hears Paul talking to a woman, who says that "Williams is right". Paul wants to go public with what they know. There’s another whispering voice in the background, talking about secrets and killing for them.

W

General William Howe

Ichabod checks Corbin's files and finds a reference to the commanding British officer, General William Howe, during the Revolutionary War summoned a whispering wraith, created by Christine Van Bilj, to root out colonial spies. It was bonded to a human host, Marcus Collins, and Ichabod knows Marcus as a traitor. Once transformed, Howe sent him out to kill the American spies who had taken Howe’s battle plans. Washington lost confidence in Marcus and spent Ichabod to a ball at Howe’s home to obtain the plans. Ichabod met up with the head of spies, Betsy Ross, but soon the other spies were killed by the wraith Marcus Collins. Ichabod and Betsy briefly confronted with Marcus and escaped.

Abbie and Ichabod figure that the wraith is rooting out people with secrets, and they determine that a Richard Williams worked with Paul... and may be the wraith’s next victim. Abbie and Ichabod go to Ricahrd's home but no one answers the door. The wraith forms on the lawn while Richard looks out from the window. Abbie fires at the creature but ignores the bullets, and Ichabod has a vision of Howe interrogating him while Abbie relives herself being a young girl inside an interrogation room, looking at a young Jenny being dragged away.

302Man1

The second victim.

Richard drives off and the wraith goes after him, and the two Witnesses pursue. Under Moloch and Christine's manipulation, the wraith appears in the back of Richard’s car and he panics, crashing his car. After securing the crime scene, Abbie confirms that neither Paul nor Richard had any priors. She checks Richard’s house while Ichabod returns to the archive to find a way to stop the wraith. Inside the house, Abbie finds a hidden floor compartment holding receipts. Irving comes in and points out that there’s no pattern in the deaths between Richard and Paul. Abbie assures him that they’ll figure it out, and Irving tells her to go for whatever lead she’s on.

CQz2e78UkAA99 G

Ichabod was pressured by Howe into selling his comrades, but he refused.

Back at the archive, Abbie goes through the receipts and tells Ichabod that Richard and Paul discovered that the city comptroller, Arthur Weissman, was embezzling from the county employees’ pension plans. They figure the wraith is trying to hide a secret and kill the heroic individuals trying to reveal it, just like it did for Howe in Colonial times.

Ichabod admits for the first time that he was captured and taken to Howe and Christine. Howe offered him a pardon if he named Washington’s spies, Christine gave him a chance of being pardoned, and Ichabod considered it before denying it escaping. When Ichabod asks if she felt anything, Abbie avoids the question and says that secretary Susan James helped Richard and Paul get the evidence against Weissman. They wonder if Weissman conjured the wraith but decide to focus on saving Susan... and themselves as the wraith will come after them since they know the secret.

In order to destroy the Witnesses, Moloch summons the wraith again. Abbie, Sister Mary Eunice and Ichabod take Susan to an empty warehouse where Ichabod is setting up fluorescent lights to keep the place fully illuminated. Ichabod admits that he doesn’t have the necessary mystic weaponry to dispel the wraith. He figures that as long as the lights are on, the wraith can’t draw power from the shadows. As Susan says that she wants to be done with keeping her secret, the lights flicker. Ichabod goes to check the line and the wraith blows out the fuse box. It attacks him and Ichabod relives his near-confession to Howe. He grabs a metal pipe and fends the wraith off, and Abbie tosses flash-bangs at the creature to hold it at bay. Ichabod warns that they can’t hold it off forever, and Abbie reminds him that it never came after Betsy. He remembers her yelling Marcus’ name, and they realize that using the wraith’s true name can force its retreat.

302Marcus

Marcus Collins' physical form finally revealed before his defeat.

Realizing the secret, Ichabod steps out and calls Marcus by name. it flinches and Ichabod reminds it that it betrayed its fellow Americans when Ichabod refused after facing the same choice. Marcus turns solid and attacks Ichabod, and Sister Mary Eunice and Abbie attack it long enough for Ichabod to impale it with the pipe, killing the survived creation of Christine for good.

After Weissman is arrested based on Susan’s testimony, Irving congradulated Abbie for solving the case. Later at Abbie’s house, Ichabod worries about how he considered betraying his fellow spies. Abbie assures him that only makes him human and reminds him that he didn’t. Ichabod says that he feels relieved having given up his burden, while Abbie reacted in guilt.

Sleepy-hollow-001-valentines

The demonic creature Abbie met in her nightmare.

Later that night, however, Abbie has a nightmare. In the nightmare, Abbie is brought in to the department, where Ichabod is leading an interrogation as Captain Irving and a psychiatrist observe. Abbie sees who the suspect is; it is her teen self. Ichabod then replaces sitting where teenage Abbie was. However, Ichabod's eyes are whited out. Once Abbie busts in, the room begins swirling and she can't escape. Beginning to panic, a demonic creature appears behind her.

She wakes up from the nightmare, startled by her cell phone, and is called to a scene. A doctor named Maura Vega is threatening to jump off a building and will only speak with Abbie. When Abbie reaches, the doctor says "everything she saw was real. I believed her and I lied". Leaving Abbie confused, Vega turns to face her, being the psychiatrist from Abbie's dream. Strangely enough, her eyes are whitened out. The doctor refers to Abbie's sister, Jenny, and jumps to her death.

Part 3 - Sandman[]

103Sandman
Garret sees Moloch

Mr. Gillespie sees the demon the day in the woods he's found Jenny and Abbie.

Falling into morning, Abbie tells Ichabod and Irving about Vega's eyes. They head to check out the corpse, and as the paramedic shows them the eyes, the eyeball explodes out grains of sand. After the doctor's body is taken away, Irving finds that Dr. Vega did a year of residency at the same hospital where Jenny was locked up for her first year away. Abbie tells Ichabod that Dr. Vega was in her dream, along with the nightmare monster, but she'd never met Vega before. Ichabod calls it a prophetic dream, but Abbie isn't thrilled with the "Witness" label. Later, they watch a recording of Jenny's report of seeing a demon when she was a teenager. Abbie finds in Vega's notes, a reference that Jenny showed no other signs of mental illness. Abbie's willing to write off the doctor's suicide as guilt over letting Jenny stay institutionalized when she knew she wasn't crazy, but Ichabod reminds her of the sand eyeball and her own dream.

Ichabod insists on wanting to speak with Jenny, whom Abbie hasn't spoken to in five years. Upon the visit, Abbie hears the nurse call over to room forty nine and remembers her vision in which Corbin told her not to fear "number forty nine". Jenny refuses to see Abbie, so Ichabod goes instead. After some small talk, he tells her he's seen the demon she saw. She sarcastically warns him to follow her sister's lead and not say things like that. Jenny tells Ichabod that it's the exact reason why she's institutionalized and Abbie isn't. Ichabod then sorrowfully informs Jenny of Vega's death. He tells Jenny that he doesn't think she is crazy, and neither does Abbie. Still having a grudge against her sister, Jenny refuses and tells him that it's too late to fight the Horseman's army.

As they leave, Ichabod asks Abbie what happened and she tells him something she's never told anyone. When she saw the thing in the woods she remembered waking up. It felt like she'd been asleep for a few moments, but it had been four days and the whole town was looking for them. A rancher, named Garrett Gillespie, found them and saw the demon too. When they were taken in, she told Jenny not to say anything about what they saw, but she didn't listen. Jenny told them what she saw, but Abbie said she didn't see anything. Abbie blames Jenny for not listening to her to stay silent. They were in a good foster home and Abbie didn't want them to get in trouble for sneaking beers through the woods that night. Ichabod tells Abbie that she needs to admit she turned her back on her sister. Next, he asks to speak with Mr. Gillespie.

At his place, Gillespie dozes off and suddenly hears a noise. He goes to investigate and cuts his leg on a nail sticking out of a table. The cloth he uses to wipe the blood away takes on an odd symbol. He takes out his gun, and the demon briefly appears behind him before disappearing again.

The Sandman appears behind Abbie

The Sandman appeared briefly behind Abbie.

Later, Captain Irving comes out into the squad room with a road sign of a horseback rider with the top of the sign broken off, which is the same road sign found in the crime scene of Alfred Knapp's murder. Detective Morales admits to the prank, which Irving commends him on. They get a report of shots fired at the Gillespie ranch and head there. Abbie and Ichabod pull up to Gillespie's house, but it's already surrounded by patrol cars. Gillespie has taken his wife hostage and demands to speak to Abbie. She goes in the house and finds Gillespie on the floor of his kitchen with his wife nearby, where she says he's lost his mind. Gillespie, like Dr. Vega's, eyes are white. Suddenly, Gillespie sees the demon behind Abbie and fires in the air and warns her that the "Sandman" is coming for her the next time she falls asleep. Without hesitation, he bites the bullet. Later at night, outside the Gillespie house, Abbie tells Ichabod what Gillespie said. He suggests the Sandman is the faceless monster from her nightmare.

Back in the archives, Abbie looks into the sheriff's files on sleep demons and finds one that bears the symbol that was left on Gillespie's bloody rag. Ichabod is familiar with the Mohawk sleep demon. His Mohawk friends told him stories about the spirit of Ro'kenhronteys, during the Revolutionary War, who would come for you if you didn't do right by your neighbor. Ichabod then suggests that they visit a Mohawk shaman. She gives him the bad news about the Native Americans, therefore not having many around. Sister Mary Eunice suggests another kind of shaman and takes him to a used car lot, Geronimotors, which is owned by a Mohawk shaman named Seamus Duncan. Upon their request, he refuses once they mention Ro'kenhronteys, but eventually Ichabod convinces him that he will be just as guilty as Abbie if he refuses to help her. Seamus takes them to a kind of lodge away from town and gives Abbie a herbal tea that will allow her to walk in the dream world and take on the demon, but warns her if she dies there, she dies in reality. Sister Mary Eunice cannot interfere since it is only up to Abbie to decide facing her past or dying while running away from it.

Ro'kenhronteys is defeated

Abbie confesses to her secrets, allowing Ro'kenhronteys to turn into glass before shattering him.

Ichabod chugs the potion to join her. Then the shaman tells them they need scorpion venom to be able to control what they do in the spirit world. He ties them down to tables and puts scorpions in jars on their bare stomachs to let them get stung. They fall asleep and wake up in a foggy forest, looking for each other. Ro'kenhronteys finds Abbie and flings sand in her eyes. He tells her she has been weighed on the scales of justice and been found wanting. She fires at him but the shots do nothing to it.

Ichabod finds a red door in the forest. Abbie next finds herself in the interrogation with her sister from after they saw the demon. Eventually, Ro'kenhronteys turns into the questioner and turns around at Abbie asking her if she saw the demon. Ichabod, on the other hand, walks through the door and is in the police station. He sees Dr. Vega and Gillespie hanging from nooses in the hallway, a third empty one swings nearby.

Just as Abbie is trapped by the demon and nearly killed, Ichabod comes in and tells Ro'kenhronteys to stop, but he turns on Ichabod and strikes off Ichabod's arm. Abbie stops the attack by confessing what she saw that day and confronting the Ro'kenhronteys. She tells him she's not afraid anymore and won't desert her sister again. Immediately after, Ro'kenhronteys begins to harden into glass and Abbie shatters him with a chair.

Later, in the archives, Abbie says to Sister Mary Eunice and Ichabod she has some unfinished business to take care of. Just as she's about to leave, Captain Irving comes in. He doesn't want to know the details of their investigation, just that it's closed. Abbie visits Jenny at the mental hospital and the orderly takes Abbie to Jenny's room, but it's empty. After realizing that Jenny has escaped, Abbie orders the building locked down. Then, Abbie finds a loose panel in the ceiling, learning of her escape route and being impressed.

Part 4 - Jenny Mills[]

Sleepyhollow s2 lyndiegreenwood 1200 article story large

In a flashback, during the time of what was known today as the "Boston Tea Party", soldiers were being ordered to bring back the crate and Crane alive. It was a Hessian soldier they’re after, who begins chanting or praying something and then there’s an explosion.

Back in the present, Crane’s hilarious yesteryear time period is poked fun at while he’s on the phone with OnStar. Abbie interrupts to tell him that Jenny has escaped the institution she was in and she’s trying to get Captain Irving to let her have a head start on the search. It turns out that Jenny is far away in a bar, asking for her things from the bartender, Wendel Clark, who takes them from a safe for her.

Elsewhere, a seemly ordinary piano teacher gets a phone call from a disguised voice of Moloch himself, telling him about Item 37. It informs the man that she has escaped and she knows where said Item is. He’s tasked with getting her and the item and told that a “clean-up crew” would assist him. Soon after, the man shows up in the bar to threaten Wendel Clark, who takes out a gun to defend himself, but is easily tossed over the bar. The men hold Wendel down and proceed to torture him for the information they are seeking. Eventually, Captain Irving and the police are called when poor Wendel’s tortured body is found – his head was cut off and his body hung up on the wall.

Meanwhile, Crane and Abbie are still trying to track down Jenny. She’s still on the move, being shown at a truck stop with a big bag of guns. Abbie and Crane visit one of Jenny’s foster moms. When she is less than helpful, Abbie threatens legal action against the woman, who is obviously not caring for the multiple children she has living with her for the state money she receives. The woman finally relents, telling Abbie about Trout Lake, where Jenny used to go. On their way out, Abbie tells the woman to expect a call from Family Services.

Up at the cabin, Abbie showcases some of her less than legal skills by picking the lock on the cabin. When they begin to look around, Abbie realizes that Corbin stayed in Jenny’s life as well from the pictures around. Jenny comes out of hiding and points a gun at Abbie, with Abbie pointing one right back at her and Crane stuck in the middle of their arguing. Jenny tells them that the night before Corbin died, he visited her and explained to her that he felt Death coming for him and that if that turned out to be true, she had to come to the cabin and get something out of the safe. When things cool down between them, they all work together to get a sextant out of the wall.

Crane recognizes it as something from the past. He explained that the Redcoats had acquired a weapon that would have turned the war in their favor. In the past, Crane had started the Boston Tea Party in an attempt to get the device. But there was a Hessian soldier – the same kind of soldier as the Horseman – guarding it and he took his own life to save the weapon. Only Ichabod survived and he went to make sure the crate was safely restored. When they set up the sextant as a projector, it shows an old map of Sleepy Hollow on the wall.

Before they can study the map too long, a laser pointer appears on the map and someone begins shooting at them. It’s the same man from earlier, who had tortured and killed Wendel. In the fire fight, someone steals the project from them, but not before Jenny stops one man from leaving with the rest. Disarming him, she notes it an Uzi pistol with military specs. When he doesn’t answer Abbie’s questions, Jenny wants to torture the answers from him and they argue about methods. Crane checks the man and finds a tattoo on him. He recognizes the symbol and the man as being part of the Reinhesses, of the 5th Batallion, better known as a Shadow Warrior. Crane reveals another talent of his – an ability to speak German – and speaks to the man about The Lesser Key of Solomon. It’s a book of black magic, filled with rituals to conjure up 72 demons, that was found by the Knights Templar of the Crusades. He’s explaining to them that they ingratiated themselves into Sleepy Hollow – he himself is a music teacher.

Elsewhere, Irving identified the man and is searching through his home. Down in the basement, Irving and his men find all sorts of strange things around, but obviously he’s not there. He tells Crane that he’s unsure about how many there are, being a part of a sleeper cell, but that he knows who Abbie, Jenny, and Crane are. His name is Gunther and he talks about the demon that Abbie and Jenny saw in the woods. He tells them that his brothers have the map; that the doorway will open now that he’s completed his task. He speaks a last bit of German and then takes the cyanide pill concealed in his mouth, killing him. Before he dies, he tells them, “Moloch shall rise.”

At odds once more, Jenny wants to follow this lead alone, while Abbie wants to tell everyone and get help. Crane is busy drawing a crude map of what they briefly saw earlier. The Hessians are hunting down The Lesser Key of Solomon while armoring up and going to the same location as Jenny, Abbie, and Crane. In the car, Crane asks Jenny where she learned to fight. She explains that she was a traveling freedom fighter of sorts and Crane is pretty impressed. Abbie isn’t the only Mills sister he likes.

The Hessians begin the process of summoning Moloch when Abbie, Jenny, and Crane find them. When Abbie makes herself known, the men try to kill her and Jenny jumps to her defense. They begin shooting back and forth as the summoned demons are trying to get out of the molten portal spilling over onto the floor. Crane saves Jenny from being thrown to the demons and then is attacked by a Hessian. When Jenny is threatened with death again, Abbie closes The Lesser Key of Solomon and throws the book into the demon pit, destroying it. The pit closes and the men have no choice but to leave, they’ve lost.

Later, Jenny is sitting in an empty room at a table, with handcuffs on. Abbie comes into the room and uncuffs her as Jenny questions her relationship with Ichabod. Abbie explains to her about the two Witnesses from the Bible as she’s trying to make amends. Jenny says she’s going to continue to punish Abbie forever because of how Abbie turned her back on her. Trying to undo past mistakes, Abbie tells her that they lost everything that day in the forest, but that she sees Jenny for who she really is and she’s proud of her. She offers Jenny a conservatorship, where they might be able to get Jenny out of the psychiatric facility in less than six months. Abbie thinks that together they can find answers. Jenny explains to her that Corbin said she’d be back when she was ready and looking for forgiveness.

After departs with Jenny, Abbie meets with Ichabod in corridor, who leads her into a room and reveals Moloch's own existence using Paradise Lost, the poetry book by John Milton, revaeling that this is the one who controls the Four Horsemen and guards Katrina. Now, the Witnesses knows his name.

Discovery of Howe's Corpse[]

The corpse of a med student, missing only two days, is found on Halloween in Sleepy Hollow, next to an iron casket, containing a colonial age British officer, whose decapitation however is recent. Historian Ichabod Crane and Lieutenant Abbie Mills claim the cases and the ancient corpse. Ichabod identifies the officer as a British commanding general, but is found to have the exact handwriting of Washington's captain aid. The med student's case may involve a strict-Catholic lover and cahoots in a flat-lining experiment.

Howe's Resurrection[]

305William

Willaim Howe after his resurrection.

A courier driver is heading down the road when his radio malfunctions and then goes dead. His GPS goes out as well and the driver skids off the road when a robed woman appears in front of him. The driver runs back only to discover that the woman is gone. The woman appears behind him, revealing herself as Phyllis Peach, and says that it's not personal before killing him with magic, as he was one of her targets as a victim. Once he dies, Phyllis opens the truck. Inside is a case and Phyllis opens it to reveal a skeleton inside. She tosses a Nordic rune stone on it and maggots emerge, reconstituting the body. Phyllis asks if General Howe will answer the king's call to service, and Howe sits up and asks where. She tells him that he is in Sleepy Hollow, and tells him to raise his men and make the patriots afraid of Britain and her dead. Howe mutters the name Crane.

305Ichabod

Ichabod received the bad news from the Jeffersonians.

Meanwhile, Ichabod, Abbie, Tweedledee and Tweedledum are bowling for Halloween. Abbie is dressed as Beyonce, and Ichabod is dresses as John Adams. Abbie points out Selina Strawberry (dressed up as Little Red Riding Hood) nearby, and she waves to Ichabod. With some encouragement from Abbie, Ichabod goes over to greet his new friend. She says that she's dressed in a style inspired by the design of Betsy Ross, and dismisses her as a mere seamstress. As they were talking, Ichabod gets a call and says that Dr. Temperence Brennan made arrangements to transport Howe's remains to the Historical Society. However, the courier company reports that the body never arrived. Ichabod and Abbie had a bad feeling on this problem.

305William1

Howe brought his army back to life as undead zombies.

At the night, three kids are in a cemetery egging the tombstones. They explore a nearby mausoleum but when they try to leave, Howe emerges from the shadows. Two of the kids run, and the third backs away in fear. Animated corpses pour out of the mausoleum and surround the boy, guns drawn.

Abbie and Ichabod check the van and wonder why anyone would steal a 200-year-old skeleton. They figure that Nevins is responsible and spot tracks leading into the forest. The Witnesses follow them into the nearby cemetery, and Ichabod explains that the British used it as a staging ground during the Invasion of Manhattan. They built the mausoleum to stage the British dead.

305Promo15

Ichabod and Abbie faced Howe and his undead army.

The Witnesses enter the central chamber and find the shattered vault. Blood drips down from the ceiling and the boy's corpse drops off of the balcony. Howe and his men walk in and the general calls Ichabod's name. Ichabod remembers Howe from when he tried to force him to confess, and opens fire with Abbie. The corpses ignore the bullets and the Witnesses are forced to run. They head up a stairway and the soldiers charge outside as the sun rises. They fade into the ground as Abbie and Ichabod watch from above. Meanwhile, Phyllis used Howe and his troops to murder people under a name of training, while keeping the victims' organs and flesh for herself so that she would prepare dishes for her upcoming dinner feast.

Next day at the Archives, Ichabod is going through the books and remembering his last meeting with Howe centuries ago. Abbie arrives and says that the police are dismissing the boy's murder as a prank gone wrong. Ichabod explains that Howe once commanded his respect. Abbie points out that Howe sent a whispering wraith against Ichabod, and Ichabod admits that's why Washington sent him to kill Howe.

Howe's men take control of Manhattan during the invasion. In the early hours, Howe and his men commandeer a townhouse belonging to a Patriot. The general goes through the owner's belongings and finds a Nordic rune stone, just as Ichabod sneaks in and puts a gun to his head. Ichabod tells him to order his men to leave the city, and Howe asks if he can kill a man in cold blood. Ichabod says that he has made his choice, and Howe says that he spits on the graves of his ancestors who fought for England. Ichabod asks if he will retreat, and How tells him to do what he came to do or leave. Before Ichabod can shoot, Howe's men run in and Ichabod is forced to flee.

Ichabod blames himself for the invasion since he failed to kill Howe. Abbie suggests that Washington sent him there for another reason, and Ichabod remembers the rune stone. He finds a volume describing the Draugur, a rare breed of undead worrier that swear to fulfill their duty beyond death. They spend their days in subterranean and are unstoppable. Washington has written in the book, noting that the method to defeat the Draugur lie in Howe's tomb. The tomb was unearthed in 1812 in Philadelphia, but Howe was interred somewhere else first. Abbie suggests that the FBI analyze Howe's bones and narrow down a location from a soil analysis. They figure that Moloch's agents plan to raise a new wave of terror by unleashing the Draugur on Halloween.

At Abbie's office, Abbie explains that their lab doesn't have the equipment to trace Howe's lab. It will take two weeks for the DC lab to run the results, but Ichabod suggests that they contact Brennan and have her speed the process. Abbie agrees and they drive for the Jeffersonian Institute.

Booth and Brennen greeted Ichabod and Abbie.

When Ichabod and Abbie arrive, Booth and Brennan greet them. Abbie explains what they need and Brennan is glad to help. Brennan is glad to help and explains what she's doing to Ichabod. She's skeptical of his theory that the Founding Fathers buried and reburied Howe, and Ichabod wonders if she considers faith and art mere numbers. Brennan justifies all of them in rationale terms, but Ichabod isn't convinced. The results come up and Brennan confirms that the soil samples match two locations: Seneca and Maryland, Montgomery. The Capitol has stone from both sources, and Ichabod explains that Washington had a tomb prepared there. It was never used, and Ichabod figures that the Founders used the unused tomb to conceal Howe's actual grave site. Brennan insists on participating in his research, and Ichabod reluctantly agrees.

Abbie and Booth wait, and Booth wonders why she's running an off-book investigation. He assures her that he'd still have her back. Abbie admits that the FBI is a whole new level, and Booth assures her that Corbin knew she had what she needed. Brennan and Ichabod come in and Brennan insists that she's going with them. Booth agrees and the team heads out.

After arriving at Washington D.C., Ichabod and the others enter the basement of the Capitol. They find a keyhole and Ichabod inserts his ring to unlock it. The door opens, reveling a vast chamber inside. Booth steps on a panel, triggering a panel that slams down between them, separating Ichabod and Brennan from Abbie and Booth. Gas pipes ignite on Ichabod and Brennan's side, and Ichabod realizes that it's Greek Fire. On the other side, Booth finds a lock with alchemical symbols. He shoots out the lock and the gas jets shut off. Brenna wants to excavate the entire area, but Booth focuses on the immediate situation and gets her out. Abbie and Ichabod hang back and Ichabod says that he's discovered the Draugur's weakness. To stop them they'll have to burn Sleepy Hollow to the ground.

As Ichabod and Abbie drive away, Ichabod explains that Washington used the fire jets to destroy the Draugur if they came for their leader. He warns that Greek fire can't be extinguished and will burn until nothing remains. Betsy Ross is leading refugees out of Manhattan via the underground tunnels. Ichabod finds her and warns that Howe won't leave the city. Betsy says that she has new orders to get out of the city and leads the refugees out before countermeasures are employed. Greek fire was the countermeasure, and Betsy set the Draugur on fire. The resulting fire set New York City on fire. Ichabod warns that they face the similar choice that Washington did, and Abbie insists that they're not going to burn down Sleepy Hollow.

In Sleepy Hollow, Phyllis watches as the children go trick-or-treating. One girl, April, gets separated from her mother. Phyllis tells April not to lose her treats and her eyes glow, and April runs off. Howe joins Phyllis, and she tells him to go forth and slaughter when the sun sets.

HoweAndHisUndeadArmy

Howe and his undead army

Back at the archive, Ichabod, Sister Mary Eunice and Abbie meet with Tweedledee and Tweedledum. Ichabod has provided everyone with Cheirosiphones, designed to deploy Greek fire. They'll draw the Draugur into the tunnels to contain the fire, and Ichabod will act as bait to lure Howe and his army.

After sunset, Howe and the Draugur march out of the fog. The townspeople assume that it's some kind of Halloween celebration, and Howe orders his men to aim and prepare to fire. Before they can, Ichabod and Abbie drive their SUV into the way, blocking the shots. Ichabod attacks them while Abbie gets the townspeople to safety.

305Weakness

Howe before committing suicide in the Greek Fire

In the subsquent chaos, Howe sees Ichabod and attacks him, and the two men fight against each other in a fierce sword fight, but Howe gets the upper hand at first. Once he has the general's attention, Ichabod ducks into the tunnels below and Howe follows him. Doubling back, Ichabod tackles him. Abbie watches as the soldiers descend into the earth.

In the tunnels, the Draugur surround Ichabod. Sister Mary Eunice, Tweedledee and Tweedledum open fire, incinerating the creatures, and Abbie arrives in time to burn up one Draugur as it attacks Ichabod. As the fire spreads, Abbie and Ichabod retreat and Howe confronts them in an final attempt of struggling. Trapping Howe in front of a line of flames, Ichabod says that he should have ended it long ago. However, laiming he won't give satisfaction to a turncoat, Howe steps into the flames rather than lettting Ichabod to destroy him. Thus, William Howe is dead, for the second and final time.

At the ruined church, Pandora watches the Draugur's defeat in her font. Another bud blossoms on her tree. At the archive, Booth and Brennan teleconference with Abbie and Ichabod. The Jeffersonian is going to excavate Howe's tomb, and Ichabod says that he's busy renovating a site of his own. Brennan wonders how Ichabod found Washington's letter, and Booth tells her to let it go. Once they hang up, Ichabod tells Abbie that he feels relieved he can put Howe behind him.

After Howe's death, Crow, Christine and Nevins hold a meeting inside Moloch's lair. They discuss about the souls they gathered within Purgatory during all those days manipulating the past events that Ichabod and Abbie had. Christine gloats that with the enough souls for the Horseman of Death rise back and return to Sleepy Hollow, fully charged, it is time to summon him back to Sleepy Hollow once again to continue his mission and spread violence. When Crow asks about the blood tie between Ichabod and the Horseman, Christine reveals that Moloch has more arrangement on that, but she keeps it as a secret since she finds this interesting.

In the final scene, as the sun was ready to set, the Headless Horseman is seen coming out of the water and getting on his horse, leaving a fiery trail in his path. He is heading towards nowhere but Sleepy Hollow.

Meanwhile, inside her house, Phyllis used Howe's victims' flesh and organs to cook splendid dishes which was used to prepare for her dinner party, and it ended up to be a great success. Among her applauding guests, there were Blaze Banana, Lenardo Lemon, Orlando OrangeLillian LimePedro Pineapple and Walter Watermelon.
